mixed-media storytelling

I explored the art of storytelling, camera positioning, and rudimentary 3D modeling through the following comic exercise. Inspired by the stories of the lumas I adored from childhood run-throughs of Mario Galaxy games, I wanted to create a short story that invoked nostalgia in my audience.

interactive storytelling

After completing my story, I wanted to bring it to life in Unity. The storyline relies heavily on narration and verbal interactions, as the environment is simple. Although the story is linear and the environment lacks detail, I met the challenge by enhancing the ambiance of the experience. I added a customized player's cursor and used nostalgic music from games to create an immersive bedtime story feel. To make the story more personal, I enlisted the help of my 10-year-old brother for the narration. Enjoy our little star story!

gathering inspiration

Lumas are very important to the Mario Galaxy Universe. The power of the stars fuels the galaxy, and the lumas provide Mario with support and companionship on his travels through the universe. I wanted to create a short narrative that centered around the lumas themselves. The references for my work as well as the ambiance of the scene were inspired by these images of Mario’s world.
